Avoid Starvation Metabolism - Here's how

Starvation metabolism is a mechanism of the human body that is caused by evolution. The body has some sort of emergency mechanism in case there isn't enough food for a period of time.

So if a person takes in fewer calories than they use up over a longer period of time, then the body switches to a kind of emergency mode in order not to waste energy and not to starve for as long as possible.

Slow Down Hunger Metabolism

With a diet, where the goal is to lose weight, you have to avoid this starvation metabolism in order to be able to achieve the goals of the diet. Normally one can assume that the organism then switches to emergency mode if it consumes around 500 fewer calories a day than it uses up for three to five days.

With most diets, you eat even less in order to lose weight quickly. After these three days, the body first begins to break down muscles, because muscles consume a lot of energy. Unfortunately, the body doesn't begin to break down the fat, it begins to break down the muscle, which helps anyone who is dieting burn calories. So how can you avoid starvation?

Trick The Body And Avoid Starvation Metabolism

So to trick the body, choose a diet where you only lose about half a pound a week and only cut down to 300-400 calories below your daily needs. This requires a fairly precise knowledge of the needs and also a little discipline, because you have to keep a pretty good record of what you eat in order to stay in this range and not let the starvation metabolism kick in in the first place.

Of course, this means that the diet takes much longer than the miracle doctors promise, but it is sustainable and leads to long-term success. It also makes sense to eat a little more than you need one day a week to signal to the body that there is no emergency and to be able to avoid starvation.
